Screen Capture

Screen Capture

Instantly see what is currently playing on any of your digital signage screens with Screen Capture. The Live View feature lets you refresh the capture on the fly for real-time monitoring of your TV.

Screen Capture in Play Digital Signage lets you see exactly what is running on your screen at any moment — similar to taking a screenshot, but much more powerful.

How Screen Capture Works

Screen Capture is available in two places:

  • On the Screens overview page (one button per screen)
  • In Groups — click the Screen Capture button to get a capture of all screens in the group at once

When you use Screen Capture, the cloud connects to your screens, takes a snapshot of the current content, and displays it in a pop-up window.

Live View After the initial capture, simply click the Refresh button to update the image on the fly. This gives you near real-time monitoring of what is happening on your TVs without closing and reopening the window. Perfect for troubleshooting, verifying content, or watching dynamic updates live.

For Groups and Schedules, the capture shows all screens simultaneously. Screens that are offline will clearly display “Offline” so you can instantly see the status of every device in the group or schedule.

Key Benefits

  • Quickly verify that the correct playlist, layout, or content is showing
  • Troubleshoot playback issues remotely
  • Monitor multiple screens efficiently with a single click
  • Use Live View to watch dynamic content (news, weather, web pages) update live
  • Easily identify offline screens in groups and schedules

Screen Capture works on all Play-supported media players and requires an active internet connection on the screen. It is especially valuable for large deployments, remote locations, or anytime you need instant visual confirmation of what your audience is seeing.

Why am I not getting any feedback when I use Screen Capture?

In most cases, when there is no feedback after having asked for a screen capture, it's because the media player is too busy. Meaning the media player may be overloaded and therefore can not handle the load and therefore isn't going to give you the feedback, or in best scenario with a delay.
